Some Article Writing Mistakes That You Should Avoid

A marketing campaign using article writing has the potential to make or break a website. If the articles are available for reprints by ezine publishers and other webmasters, then there is nothing that can stop you from getting lots of visitors to your website. However, in order to get your articles picked up by directories and distributed in large numbers, you should learn to avoid some common mistakes.

Watch For These Errors When Writing Articles

  • One of the most common mistakes is having a large number of grammatical, spelling or punctuation errors. Proofread the article yourself or, better yet, have a professional proofer do it for you.
  • Clearly define all paragraphs and highlight points wherever possible. Web users frequently engage in "info-snacking and your customers want to be able to see in a few seconds what it is you're trying to communicate. Try to provide small bits of interesting information with bullets and subheadings wherever possible.
  • Choose a voice and stay true to it until the very end. Switching perspectives from first to second to third person can confuse the message and sound unprofessional. Select your style and consistently use the same voice for the entire article.
  • Do not promote the product or service unnecessarily or create much hype about it. Instead, sell via a resource box at the end of the article.
  • Provide in-depth information in the article instead of making it seem superficial. Try to be original and creative. Also, be concise and to the point, but be sure you explain your concept thoroughly. Do not deviate from the topic.
  • Make sure that the headline and subheadings are attention-grabbing. You don't want a very good article to be ignored because of a boring introduction and a dull headline.
  • Never copy directly from existing articles. You may use ideas from other sources as long as you restate them in your own words. Plagiarism will not only cause your articles to be rejected by directories, but it is also illegal in many cases.
  • If you are outsourcing the article writing through a professional web content provider, make sure that you have an exclusive license to do so.
  • Do not overload the resource box. Too much information in a box negates the effectiveness of that feature. Stick to one or two website URLs at the most to ensure a good distribution rate.
  • Improper titles that do not describe the nature of the article often fail to grab readers' attention. Craft an efficient and attention-grabbing title to get positive results.
  • Consider including an affiliate link to make the site look more professional, but make sure that the link is not in the main body of the text. Instead, feature it in the resource box.

If you have a resource box, ensure that it relates directly to the article. If your resource box does not reflect the idea of the article, you will not only confuse the reader but also lose your only connection to your website.
